Hosts Techical Luncheon

"Tight Oil Waterflood – Forecast Results and Controlling Factors"

January 18, 2012 @ Metropolitan Centre
333 – 4th Avenue SW

Historically, waterflooding with vertical wells has been limited to reservoirs with greater than 10mD permeability. However, hydraulically fractured horizontal wells have decreased that lower permeability limit.

This presentation addresses the practicality of waterflooding tighter reservoirs and identifies the predominant controlling factors that govern secondary recovery from hydraulically fractured horizontal wells in low permeability reservoirs. In addition to presenting Pembina Cardium forecast results, we’ll also address the influence each of the following factors has on potential field performance:

  1. Reservoir permeability
  2. Mobility ratio (oil viscosity)
  3. Fracture length

Please join us to learn more about how we can help improve the effectiveness of your waterflood design and improve recovery from tight oil reservoirs. Lunch will be provided.

Presenter Bios:

Mark Smith, EIT: a Drilling EIT at Shell Canada, is a 2011 graduate of the University of Calgary Oil and Gas Engineering program. His internship provided hands on experience with Exploitation, Process and Drilling Engineering with ARC Resources, Cenovus and Shell Canada respectively.

Mohamad Habib, EIT: a Production Engineering EIT with ConocoPhillips, a recent graduate from the University of Calgary with a degree in Chemical Engineering and a Petroleum minor. His 16 month internship with Conoco Phillips as a Production Engineer focused on their Deep Basin Gas Wells.

Helen Ha, EIT: a Reservoir Engineering EIT with GCA Canada, graduated from University of Calgary in 2009 in Chemical Engineering with a minor in Petroleum Engineering, a reservoir engineer with 3 years of practical experience in reservoir engineering, both analytical and simulation. Career experience includes waterflood feasibility and optimization simulations, CO2 miscible flooding, SAGD, and multi-fractured sensitivity simulation.
